Virginia May
gave up her 9 to 5 job to pursue her dream of being a full-time artist. Since that time, her involvement in both group and solo exhibitions has resulted in much success, both in sales of her work and awards. She has participated in the Toronto Outdoor Art exhibitions since the 1970’s and is now a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, the Willowdale Group of Artists, the Society of Canadian Artists and a signature member of the Toronto Watercolour Society (TWS). She was awarded “Best in Show” at the TWS’s Fall Juried Show in 1999 and has won several other awards. Virginia has also had work juried into shows by the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Society of Canadian Artists.
“I think the most exciting thing about painting is when you stand back after having completed your work, and have an extreme feeling of pleasure, pleasure in having put together your vision of colour, light, texture and composition. I may initially be attracted to a subject by its colour, texture, extreme lighting but ultimately it’s the composition that makes or breaks a painting.”
